Saltspring Pictures Production Company is an umbrella organization designed to develop a small, island-based film industry and encourage the growth of island-based productions.

Our short-term vision is to produce island-made feature films for a broad off-island market that will, through its success, benefit the community.
The long-term vision is to network with other locally-produced filmmaking communities and take advantage of the Internet media potential.

Comprised of professionals, semi-professionals, and non-professionals, this grassroots organization will enrich the skills of the local community. Through the establishment of a mentorship program, retired and semi-retired professionals will have an opportunity to encourage local filmmaking talent. The company will create a database comprised of individuals interested in developing an active film industry on Salt Spring Island.

The mission of Saltspring Pictures, as a grassroots enterprise, is to entertain, educate, and explore the human condition through the medium of film, portraying all its facets in a provocative, mind-engaging way that challenges the assumptions of today's free-thinking world.

We will:
o Explore productions for the local community
o Export programs to other like-minded communities
o Develop content for internet based broadcasts
o Produce stories by islanders, including documentaries and docudramas
o Create commercial advertisements and community announcements
o Promote tourism

We believe a local filmmaking industry will expand our horizons by tapping into the multi-faceted local economy. It will benefit a broad range of service-oriented businesses from airplane pilots to carpenters, caterers to writers. When the lights turn on and the cameras swing into action, perspectives blossom. Saltspring Pictures has a sustainable business model as its core. Our horizontal, triple bottom line business approach emphasizes a lean budget while maintaining fiscal freedom from outside agencies and influences. In contrast to the corporate models that exist inside the film industry today, our hope is to create an equity-based, profit sharing model that spreads the risk and responsibility, while achieving a level playing field in success and its rewards. We will develop our own talent, thus directly benefiting our Gulf Island community.
